Recorder
You don’t always have a ready-made file. For supervisions, handovers, training videos, or voice notes, there’s the built-in recorder — directly in the browser, without software installation. It records audio only, your camera, your screen, or screen and camera combined.
How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”-
Open the recorder
Sidebar → Recorder. Select a project and session type, enter a title, and check your microphone and camera. The level meter shows live whether your microphone is picking up sound. The first time, the browser will ask for microphone and camera permission — grant it once.
-
Open the studio
Click “Open Studio” to switch to the recording view. There you see a live preview of exactly what the recording will look like.
-
Choose your sources
Use the toolbar buttons to toggle microphone, camera, and screen sharing on or off — in any combination:
- Camera only — classic video recording, e.g. for a video message
- Screen + camera — screen presentation with your webcam in the corner, e.g. for trainings
- Screen only — software demo without a camera image
- Audio only — camera off, no screen sharing: the recorder captures a pure audio recording
-
Start recording
Press the red Record button. A short countdown gives you a moment to get ready — then the recording runs and the timer counts up.
-
Stop, review, upload
After Stop, the recorder shows the file size of the finished recording. Click Upload to upload it — transcription starts automatically. Afterwards, “Open Session” takes you straight to the finished session, where you can review the recording and transcript.
Webcam Position
Section titled “Webcam Position”When recording screen and camera together, use the side panel to choose which corner the webcam image appears in — top/bottom, left/right. The position can also be changed live during the recording.
Quality
Section titled “Quality”Recordings are captured in up to Full HD (1080p). For screen recordings, the format automatically follows the shared screen.
On Your Smartphone
Section titled “On Your Smartphone”The recorder also works on your phone — for camera and audio recordings. Screen sharing is only available on desktop. On your smartphone, you can install StoryVault as an app on your home screen — it then behaves like a regular app (Progressive Web App).
For Longer Recordings on the Go
Section titled “For Longer Recordings on the Go”If you regularly make longer audio recordings on iPhone, we recommend the native StoryVault Recorder App — with offline support and automatic synchronization. Learn more at iPhone App →.
